There's a little too much overscan for my liking.
Plus the picture is rotated towards the left, and there's quite a bit of a
curve on the left.

I assume from this that you've tried holding down the menu button until an
extra line appears at the bottom of the menu?

Yes, tried that one.
Most of the Hitachi methods involve holding the vol - & vol + on the set
while switching on the power.

I think it may help if I knew the Chassis number of this set, but I'm not
sure where to find that?

The later Hitachi's are made by Vestel so you could try service menu
procedures for Bush, Goodmans, Alba, Toshiba, Sanyo and numerous other
sets. Is it made in Turkey or have turkish writing on the back of the
cabinet casing?

My Hitachi C32WD2TN2 service menu is brought up by first going into
the main menu and then pressing the vol - & + on the set. Tried that
one?
