There's a bunch of films on Encore's Mystery channel over the next couple of
days. I've got To Catch a Thief, Notorious, and Suspicion set up for TiVo.
The others are the Stewart films, Topaz, Family Plot and the like, all of
which I have on the Masterpiece collection. There's one coming on TCM too in
a week or so - I only paid attention to the films I didn't have so, now I
will!

I can't wait to rewatch Suspicion. For some unbeknownst reason I always get
this mixed up with either Rebecca or Notorious. Hmm, why could that be? But
as I recall there are some pretty cool scenes in there. This is probably one
of my least viewed movies - I think I've seen it only once, or twice at
most, but a very long time ago. Should be a new experience watching it
knowing what I know now, as opposed to when I saw it in the past.

Best,
Steve

'Suspicion' was a very difficult film for me to find .. back when I was
looking for it. I think it was my last Fontaine film and my last Grant
film to see.

Its gorgeous looking, like the best of those '40's films. And to have
Fontaine, Grant, Nigel Bruce and Leo G. Carroll together is a joy.

AND ... its very interesting, especially in the film-makers' original
intent *and* what we have.

Mine too - I think it's an under shown, if not also under appreciated film.
But I'll make a better decision when I see it again and it's fresh.

How many AH films is Leo G. Carroll in? It seems to me he's one of two
people who are in more than 4.

What, what, tell me? Did they slash Hitch's vision (I can't imagine them
being able to get away with it).

Or don't spoil it if I should watch it first :-)

Leo G. Carroll was in 6 Hitchcock films.
Who do you say is the other of the "two people who are in more than 4"?
Personally, off the top of my head, I can think of two others .. Clare
Greet and Hannah Jones.

Oh and Hitchcock himself, of course.

Greet was in 6 ('The Ring', 'The Manxman', 'Murder!', 'The Man Who Knew
Too Much', 'Sabotage' and 'Jamaica Inn') and Jones in 5 ('Downhill',
'Champagne', 'Blackmail', 'Murder!' and 'Rich and Strange') .. 6 if you
count 'Elstree Calling'.

Hmm, can't think just now .. surely not Redgrave. Not Laughton. Not
Gordon Harker nor Novello. I don't know.

>And John Williams is in more thna 2, right?

Yeah, again, IIRC, 'The Paradine Case', 'Dial M For Murder' and 'To
Catch a Thief'.

Sorry, to be more specific, there's the "leads"

Grant and Stewart in 4 each, Bregman and Kelly in 3 each (IIRC). All the
other "leads" are in a lot of twos - Granger, Peck, Tippi, etc. (often in
consecutive films).

Then of course there's the co-stars. Cronyn, etc. So Leo G. Carroll in 6.

Clare Greet and Hannah Jones? How many? They certainly weren't leads -
right?

Seems like there's another male British actor in many of them (more than 4
IIRC) as a bit player.

And John Williams is in more thna 2, right?

I'll have to check IMDB, but let me know if you know off the top of your
head!

Thanks.

I was thinking Ivor Novello now that you've jogged my memory. But maybe he
wasn't in as many as I though.

Ok, that sounds right - somehow I thought he may have had more, but I'm
always likely to be wrong!

Best,
Steve

It could be Donald Calthrop, he of 'Blackmail' .. where he played the
blackmailer, Tracy.
Calthrop also appeared, uncredited according to the IMDb, in 'Juno and
the Paycock' .. and 'Murder!' and 'Number Seventeen'.

So, that's four Hitchcocks .. and 'Elstree Calling', a
Hitchcock-related project.

P.S: Calthrop, the busy man, also appeared in what is widely regarded
as Britain's first talkie, 'The Clue of the New Pin' (1929) just before
'Blackmail'.
