Somebody out in movie land has probably heard of this sci-fi thriller, but I
have forgotten its title.
It's basically a cut-rate "Alien" clone set in a spaceship with a monster
with tenacles. During the
last quarter of the movie, it turns into a Christian propaganda piece.
Anybody remember the name
of this movie. It came out in the 1980s, had no big-name stars, and was
released by a small company.

I think it may have been a real cheeser called "Star Crystal".

no, it's definately "Star Crystal." At the end the alien plugs into the ship's
computer, reads the Bible, turns into a cute ET lookalike and saves the
remaining crew members. It's a great WTF? movie. Available on DVD from Anchor
Bay.
