I have all three volumes of the Essanay shorts produced by Image. Does
everyone else have the same problem with volume 2, the volume that
starts with "The Tramp?" My DVD goes into reddish and bluish hues
without warning and the quality goes from excellent to wretched. Is
this a glitch on my particular DVD, or this is standard throughout? I
thought the Image DVD's were supposed to be the best quality.

I know we're dealing with films 90 years old; maybe my expectations
are unreasonable.

Sounds like you've just got a bad copy. I've actually watched two
or three different copies of that Image DVD and they all looked great.

The film changes over to tints about 18 minutes in. This is intentional,
and there is NO change in the excellent quality, it's just tinted. Maybe
your TV is having problems?
