Seems I watch this from time to time and only see the big money makers
from Hollywood.

Now, of course there are two subsets here that overlap; those that act
well and those that make dollars.

But why do I get the feeling that there are a lot of people we are not
seeing who are great actors, those that could really help _teach_
something, but instead we get 'personalities'.

It's about the ratings, I know, I know. But still.

Maybe Lipton and producers learned that actors are boring and aloof.
Just watch the Deniro interview. Deniro mumbled a lot and didn't seem
to care about the audience.

Maybe they learned that generalizations are inane. I just watched the
Morgan Freeman interview, which was brilliant and fascinating. The show's
on Bravo, btw, not A&E.

I would love to see an episode with Fritz Weaver. An episode with him
in the interviewee's chair would probably be an exceptionally
educational one for the students; and a fascinating one for me as
well... ;)

OK, I missed the describing the right channel in the Subject line. Fixed
it.

btw- I too liked Freeman's episode, it was one of the few that seems to
live up to the premise of the show.

Still, others just seem like a talk show interview.

I've seen a few episodes and the two things they have in common are Lipton's
sycophancy and the absolutely wretched quality of the editing.

This whole thing jumped the shark when they stopped even DISGUISING
"it's all about ratings," and brought in such....er, "actors" as Billy
f'n Joel.

Yeah, kind of syrupy isn't he? SNL, yet long in the tooth, was able to
hit the nail right on the head.

It would likely be a Cable Access show if it actually had 'teaching'
actors in the greater balance.

I _like_ the show, it just doesn't seem to live up to the potential.
What it _does_ live up to is a great thing, but it feels like bait n'
switch to me.

I watch it for the Badalamenti theme, which gives me the feeling I'm
about to watch something elevated, in a sort of Kennedy-Center-Honors
way.

Eh. I thought that they went for the cheap joke with Lipton. I wanted to see
something akin to Celebrity Jeopardy, where Sean Connery goes at it with
Lipton.
