To the group:
I started a new thread since this is about rechargeable 9 Volt Li-Ions
rather than the rechargeable AA's. The Ipower batteries are too large
for some of our products and are larger than any other 9 Volt I've
measured. They are too big for both the UT transmitters and the UH
transmitters. They fit everything else. In talking to the rep, he said
Ipower would make the batteries 1 mm smaller (0.040" for us metric
challenged) in the future. This should be enough. I took a file to the
top of the battery case and removed much less than that and had an
acceptable fit. There is a lot of dead space inside the battery and
swelling can't be a problem.

The battery has a fair amount of electronics inside to prevent
overcharge, under charge, and too high a discharge. This will cause
the 400 mAh units to fail with the UM450 (quarter Watt). We didn't
take the Ipowers to NAB because we thought the batteries had totally
failed. They wouldn't run the UM450 but they wouldn't charge either.
After the show, we tried them in the standard units again and they
were ok. That's when I opened up the battery with my large dikes in
the best engineering fashion. The 500 mAh versions seem to run fine in
the UM450. We will continue testing.

The final wrinkle is the length; a battery stop we have in the UH400
to prevent over compression of the battery springs when the UH400 is
dropped onto concrete (this never happens, you say?) prevents the
longer case from working in the unit. We will resolve this somehow.
The terminal distance to the bottom of the battery is normal but the
case from the bottom to between the terminals is much too long. It may
require grooving the case between the terminals for UH units in the
field and changing the UH400 stop in the future. The batteries do seem
to work.

I'm using iPower's 9v NiMh rechargables in both my 185's and UM 205.
These lower Mah units (250 or so) seem to fit fine in both of these
wires. Course, I'm consdering the Li-Ion: they charge to 500!

Update on the NiMh batteries: I've decided to go Li-Ion...these lower
Mah will work fine in Comteks etc...I've been getting hits at about 40
mins of operation and would like something longer lasting.
