Post subject: Japanese TV - TC Frame Rate
Archived from groups: rec>arts>movies>production>sound (more info?)

Hi,
I'm having a small gig for Japanese TV next week. The camera will be a
Sony Z1 (no TC I/O) running HDV 1080/60i. I'll be recording sound
directly to camera via Zaxcom stereo link, nevertheless I'll be
rolling my SD 702T as a backup and atmo recorder. There will be no
time reference between camera and sound, as I'm confident, that the
Zaxcom will do it's job; still I want to set the 702's TC properly so
the avid will not be confused with wrong TC frame rates in case they
need to use the backup recordings. Coming from PAL land, I have no
idea what frame rate and sampling frequency to use in an HDV NTSC
project. Please advice!

Thanks, Patrick

Should I go 48Khz and 29.97ND?

As I recall, Japan uses 60Hz power. So everything A/V wise would be
the same as the USA. I think.. Hopefully someone will confirm..

Patrick,

Check what the camera is set to, Z1U's output 29.97 but they can be
set to output DF or NDF, so check what they have set to before setting
your recorder.

It is an OT but want to precise...
The frequency in Japan is completely strange. The west part of Japan is
60Hz though the east side, from Tokyo area - Rigatoni to north
(Hokkaido) is 50Hz. There's even a 50/60Hz mixed area in between...
Whole TV channel is NTSC, so no prob for audio, but be aware for using
light and so.

my 2 "yen".
