Post subject: Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba: discriminated for being "hot babes?"

Well, both Jessica Biel (25) and Jessica Alba (26) have recently
complained in magazine articles on how they're not getting the really
good actress roles that, say, Scarlett Johansson
and Natalie Portman are getting, how they're pigeon-holed into the
role of the "young
hot babe who's half-naked in most of the movie for guys to gawk at."
Looks like they wish to be known for more for their acting abilites
rather than just their hot bodies.
Understandable, but if they want to be respected more for their bodies
*of work* (bad joke,
I know), they shouldn't be posing in bikinis for men's magazines, both
of them have done more
than their fair share of that. Kind of sounds like the old "don't
hate me because I'm beautiful" phrase, with a twist.

In 20 years, when Alba and Biel don't have their hot bodies anymore
and can't pose in bikinis for men's magazines, they'll have to rely
fully on their acting ability and respectability to get good roles,
which will be tough (everybody knows that the bankability of
Hollywood
actresses starts to slope downhill after age 35)
So they're both trying to get that respect sooner rather than later.
It's certainly possible, though they may have to do something drastic
to change the public's perception of them, a la Charlize Theron in
"Monster." We'll have to wait and see.

-Frank

The fact that neither of them have that much talent especially Alba
might have something to do with it. Biel got a pretty great role
recently and what did she do, accepted it and then a few weeks later,
she turned it down and now Sienna Miller has the role. Say what you
will about Miller, the girl doesn't slouch.

Sorry but Johansson is not better even if the scripts are better, she
hasn't done anything worth seeing since those 2 roles 4 years ago,
infact she has been simply passable with every role since then perhaps
except for Matchpoint and "In Good Company". "A Good Woman", "Scoop",
"Black Dahlia", "The Island", that movie with Travolta even in The
Prestige everytime she appeared the movie sank. Her dialogue delivery
is woeful, it is monotonous, her delivery in every movie she does is
the same. There is always a hoopla about Johansson until the tepid
reviews start showing up but she works hard.

Some of these young actresses don't understand that you need to work
very hard and that it goes beyond being on the "sexy lists" or being
on the poster of the month. A good script can still result in a bad
movie but working with good to great filmmakers will still prop you up
as in the case of Johansson. Biel and Alba are still more known for
the fact that they spend way much time on beaches than then do on a
film set it seems.

In all honesty, there are very few of these actresses in their 20s
that I can imagine still working and able to translate good women's
roles on the screen. Alba in 10 years? I can't see her. Biel in 10
years? I can't see her. At 25 and 26 years old, they should have
moved into women's territory on the screen. They should not be
looking at Johansson who is much younger and wanting her roles. They
should be looking at Rachel McAdams.

Please. If it wasn't for their looks, these two would be nobody.
Mark my word, these two bimbos will disappear after they turn 40, like
all the other marginally-talented actresses who relied on their looks.

Can you image Alba (or Biel, for that matter) playing a growed-up
woman on screen? I can't. They seem to be stuck doing these 20-
something springbreakish fluff movies.

The kicker to all this is of course that Johansson and/or Portman could DO
a magazine cover wearing naught but a pair of gauze underpants and half a
bikini top, and they'd STILL be taken seriously, whereas if Biel or
especially Alba went back in time and deleted every half-nude photo that
ever existed of her, and landed the most uber-serious dramatic role in all
of film, they'd still be thought of as the fluffy chick that got that
serious role that one time.

They should start taking theater workshop to learn *REAL* acting. They just
want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Somehow I can't imagine
their egos taking the blow. Heck, I bet there are 20 people I scrounge up
better actors then these 2.

I"m not a fan of either of them but they just may surprise us.
I thought the same of Marisa Tomei and before her Farrah Fawcett.
You never know. Although I think Tara Reid will always be Tara Reid.
