Ju-On: The Grudge -- Make sense to you?

Hi there,

I hate sounding like an idiot -- and I'm certainly not new to the
Asian horror scene -- but I finally managed to see Ju-On: The Grudge
and I don't think I really understand it. With the timeline shifts, I
was occasionally confused (though not critically so, just enough to
irritate me in points), and the ending left me sort of scratching my
head. Anyone with a strong grasp of the narrative would be a real
godsend if they could give me a spoilerish synopsis. I've already
seen the film, after all, and I just want to understand what I've
seen. Especially the ending and the timeline shift involving the
ex-cop's daughter.

The storylines really have nothing to do with one another, technically,
other than the people in them have met. The "grudge" is a curse that
spreads like a virus. Get it?

After hearing how this was the scariest movie of all time and other BS, I
was very disappointed. To me it was pretty much oriental children in blue
makeup acting like the ghosts not unlike my local haunted house. I liked
"The Eye", "Face", "Into the Mirror", "Dark Water", and "Acacia" better,
amongst others.
