Hi guys,

I'm almost through the entire serial and I just love it.I think it's even
better than Les Vampires, although I was disappointed that Edouard Mathe, who I
really liked in Vampires as Philippe Guerande, dosen't have as prominent a role
in Judex, although his likeable screen personality is still very much
apparent.Musidora is a knockout as always, and Rene Creste is a really striking
looking actor( I love the hats and the long black cape!)Has anyone seen him in
anything else? And I was glad to see Marcel Levesque and Rene Poyen again.Poyen
has to be the most endearingly mischievious child star I've ever seen.

I did have a question for you guys.I think this was mentioned by several of you
here, but I noticed that on my copy the picture totally froze in the middle of
Chapter 3 The Fantastic Dog Pack, and again during Chapter 9 When The Child
Appeared.Going back to the previous posts these seem to be the same areas some
of you had problems with as well.Something to do with some sort of technical
glitch in the transfer or something to that effect. What was the outcome for all
of you concerning this?Since I bought my copy at Cinesation,I didn't buy mine
at a store I could return it too.Did any of you successfully exchange it
through Flicker Alley directly?

All glitches aside,I think it's a fantastic serial.It has a much more
fleshed-out, complex scenario and a much smoother narrative than Les
Vampires. And Robert Israel really outdid himself in providing such a dramatic
and sweeping score.Bravo on yet another fantastic release!

Best Wishes,
James

Hmmm ......... Interesting this post just cropped up. I just began watching
the series tonight, so I've only concluded the first part ... the
"Prologue", if you will. I will watch more in the next few nights. You
mentioned some sort of glitch. Hmmm.... I recorded mine from Turner
Classic Movies, which was on the Silent Sunday feature a few nights ago, so
I wonder if I'll see the same thing you spoke of with the picture freezing.
I'll try to keep you posted on this.

For someone who is supposedly a secret avenger, he sure dresses conspicuously. He
also seems to live in a local landmark (expecially noticable since it seems to glow
red)

I can't remember who played the banker, but i kept thinking of it as a Ralph Lewis
part.

Wasn't this a crazy episode? I think it was my favorite (maybe next to Musidora
handily having a rather daring bathing suit on under her dress in one early
episode--and so come to think of it did Marcel Levesque's girlfriend. What
forsight these ladies had!

I think Stanford got lucky, i didn't have any trouble playing this at all, though i
remembered early posts commenting on the problem. Maybe you got one of the early
pressings.

Good thing a modern movie like Spiderman 2 wouldn't make these kinds
of mistakes-- there have to be lots of old dilapidated waterfront
buildings in Manhattan emitting an unearthly blue glow visible from
most of the city which no one ever investigates.

Hi,

Actually I bought the DVD of this, and there was some discussion here earlier
about a technical glitch in some of the batches of the DVD's.But if you taped
yours from TCM it should be fine.

Best Wishes,
James

Hey Larry-- you only have 1/3 of the serial so far. It will run the
next two Sundays as well.

Yes,I was blow away by the bathing suits too! Certainly unlike anything I've
ever seen a Sennett Bathing Beauty of the period wear.

The actor playing Favraux the banker is Louis Leubas, who I recognized from Les
Vampires.I'm curious though. Are there any good sources that focus on
Feuillade's career?Or the careers of any of his players? He had such an
interesting stable of actors, and he seemed to use several of them frequently
throughout his career.I'd love to read more about them.

Best Wishes,
James

Unfortunately, the literature on Feuillade and his collaborators is
almost entirely in French. If you get hold of some of the Praeger
Film Library titles from the early seventies, you might see an
announcement of a forthcoming volume on Feuillade by Andi Engel. Do
not be misled. This item was never issued.

According to the Library of Congress, Wayne State University Press
will be putting out a book on Feuillade and Musidora sometime next
year. If this actually makes it, it will be the first book in English
on Feuillade.

Well, I must say that I am very impressed with "Judex"!!!! I've been
recording it on TCM's Silent Sunday nights, then stringing it out all along
through the week, part-by-part. That way it lasts longer! 8-) The only
problem: it doesn't last the whole week! :( I look forward to coming home
from work every night and watching it!

I never thought I would get THIS much into the movie, but I am so deeply
entranced by it! I think it will be one of those "must have" movies that I
will buy on DVD (hopefully, I won't have the problems with it that you
mentioned below)!

I just had to put in my 2-cents, especially since I haven't made my presence
known in here the last several days!!!!
