I have two of the Keaton DVDs from Reel Classics, "Buster Keaton at the
Speed of Sound vols. 1 & 2". The DVDs are well done, if simple in
packaging. They are actually DVD-Rs burned from a computer, as opposed
to the Kino "Keaton Plus" pressed DVD, which I received in the mail
last week. I also got their silent/sound sampler DVD for $5, which has
some interesting clips on it. The quality varies per print, as was
suggested by Darren. They seemed sourced from 16mm prints, and some
have low contrast look(read faded) to them, which seems to be because
of print condition. Amusement value of the shorts varies, as one might
expect at Educational. Keaton's family appears in some of the shorts,
too-interesting.There are also 2 versions of Keaton's "Can of molasses"
sketch from "The Butcher Boy" from early live TV appearences. A 1949 Ed
Wynn show version-somewhat faded, but Wynn is quite good as a foil to
Keaton. The second is from an episode of "You Asked For It", which
looks better & I think has the original actor playing with Keaton as in
the 1917 "The Butcher Boy" Arbuckle short. I like the range of stuff
Reel Classics offers, & if I weren't a delivery driver I'd get 'em
all!! Good stuff, so GO for both Keaton DVDs.
