How many of you folks still have previous-generation recorders around,
and will you keep them as a souvenir, as backup or in case someone
wants that format, because the reduction in value is hard to take or
because it is too much hassle to find anyone who will buy (or even take
away for free) the thing? Me: TC Nagra, TCDat, Studio TCDat, DA88,
various cassette machines. I was able to get rid of my older analog
multitracks (way cheap) and CTTC 2 track (donated) but it wasn't easy.

No space! Still have a 4.2 around for archival purposes but got rid
of all the others either via Ebay or donations.

Or here. I bought Mr. Sarokin's HHB 1 ProDAT machine
on this newsgroup.

Is ability to read old recordings not a consideration? Maybe
not for this particular popluation as you typically hand off
the recordings to others?

lol, might have been something, but not an HHB ProDat. Never owned
one. Hmmmm... Identity theft :-) But I did sell my Deva 2 via this
group.

And your PD-4...which I just got done using to make a simultaneous
recording of a string quartet for a doc from the line outs of my first
PD-4. Besides having to whisper into headphone jack "I promise not to
go NL just yet" for consolation, she ran beautifully.

my hhb still do some commercial jobs and bringing some money from student
films - the way it now with broken battery chamber and side rca plate
creaked will be quit hard to sell it for the normal price . financially
to send it to London for repair and then to ebay and maybe get 1000-1200
for ,is not very wise also . so I decided to keep it and wait until it
will finish it life - I hope in some brutal way to claim the insurance :-)
until then this 1500-2000 $ worth investment still brings more money then
the bank

so if it wouldn't crash and would stop bring money ill eventually donate
it as I did with my high band stuff in the past I had .

B&H gave me a tremendous sum for my HHB, even though they knew the battery
packs needed recelling. It paid for most of the cost of a 744T. The HHB was
in 9+ condition.

I've been waiting 6 years(!!!) to get my hands on a reasonably priced
NL recorder. Whee Doggie, I love HD recording.

My old Tascam DA-P1 is on a shelf in a box because the display is
screwed up and who would buy it anyway?
Otherwise I have a habit of selling off superceded equipment in my kit
(helps pay for the new stuff).

I still find use for my PD4 in various capacities, although my Tascam
DAP1 just sits around these days and is definitely for sale if anyone
is interested (e---l me at noah timan at earth link with a dot and a
net).

Sold both my Nagras some time ago and my DA-98 as well. Like Billy, I
got nowhere to put them. I kind of wanted to keep the 4.2 as it was my
first recorder and a beautiful machine but after it had sat in my
closet for three years without being opened or touched I decided I
could live without it.

(Speaking of which, I still have a whole bunch of 1/4" stock for it
around, if anyone needs).

I tend to keep stuff long past it's useful life. At this moment, my
DAP1 is pulling music tracks from the Sirius classic jazz channel to
dump into a MD walkman for a looong flight the end of the week (I'm too
cheap for an I-pod)...Anybody want a Revox A77 that needs a brake job?

I still keep a few relics around, mostly for some side work I do in
audio restoration.

However, the last picture I did in analog (with Dolby SR) was back in
1997. Still have a few of the Nagra's on the shelf, mostly because I
can't bear to part with them for the small amount of money I'll ever
get for them.

The DAT machines still get some use, though (mostly as backup).
