Archived from groups: alt>movies>chaplin (more info?)

In going through the Chaplin-Keystone comedies on the Madacy and Delta
DVDs (granted, not the best sources but still), I noticed that some of
the re-releases seem to stem from French prints. I was wondering if
anyone knows the history behind these? When were they prepared? Were
they mainly for revival and museum screenings? Or the home movie
market?

Additionally, does anyone know if there has been any progress on the
proposed restorations of the Chaplin Keystones?

Matt
