Think of how much more attractive this newsgroup would be with him.
I think it would be incumbent upon *all* members of this newsgroup to
immediately take my lead and killfile George Shelps.
It is by far the best way to deal with this buffoon.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind it. It would
give a clear field to post for the lurkers
and the newbies.

George actually resisted being pulled into a political discussion this
time. I'm proud of him. Of course he quickly slipped back into the old groove,
but that's forgivable. The election is on everyone's mind, and it's not
totally irrelevant, either.
I'm not prepared either to killfile George or to sucede--especially since
I'm presently living in a red state and I don't like the climate in the
North and Northeast. Dubya too shall pass, and it may be George's turn to
eat crow in 2008. I volunteer to catch and cook it for him.

You killfiled him because YOU started this thread with a hysterical rant
comparing Bush to Hitler, and George upset you by responding in a civilized
and rational manner. No wonder you don't want to read his messages. They
make you feel inadequate.

I suggest you do a little light reading in Google Groups before you start

I've been on and off this newsgroup for years. But of course, you'll find
another reason to avoid having to deal with the point I made.

Alan, he's been lobbying for everyone
to killfile me and as far as I can tell,
no one has complied with his request.
He introduced an off-topic political
fandango with his slams at Bush.
Somehow my eventual defense of W
(after trying to avoid the issue,
which Connie---no friend of mine--
acknowledges I did) is supposed to
be condemned, whereas he can compare
Bush to Hitler and Satan, and that's OK.
As I said, I don't care if I'm killfiled.
There are newbies and lurkers (like
you) who will read me....and with no
noisy rebuttals from my ideological opponents it won't be so bad.

Isn't it within totalitarian dictatorships that ideas go unchallenged?

No, you ass. I said I could live with
being killfiled because then I wouldn't be tempted to deal with your
moronic objections.
Unlike Chapllin, I condemn ALL totalitarianism...left and right.

Of course. George would like nothing better than a chance to stand
on his soapbox unchallenged and make newbies into little conservative
robots, or Minimes.
That wouldn't happen, of course, because newbies have minds of their
own, but it's his pet fantasy.

Connie, you're an idiot. I would prefer
that we all remain in dialogue, and
I have no desire to convert anyone
politically here as my principal activity.
However, there's no doubt that I want
to correct the distorted views---both
artistically and historically---that you
and your cohorts present about CC.
And it's easier to do it if I don't have
to deal with the usual slew of ad hominems and smears from all of you
and yours.
>That wouldn't happen, of course,

Again, you're an idiot if you think
that I want to be killfiled by everyone
in order to have this freedom.

You do your share of that stuff. When you discuss matters more or less
rationally, you can be fun to respond to.
And *your* view of Chaplin is amazingly distorted. If people read only
your unanswered posts, they'd wonder why anyone bothered to watch
Chaplin's films.

I made it clear--I thought--that killfiling
has its positive side, and so I could
live with it...if everyone took Moran
up on his plea---which I'm sure they
won't.
In other words, I don't care if I am
killfiled, because there are benefits
to it...as well as benefits to a continuing
dialogue. It's no threat, the making
of which may grow hairs on Moran's
chest, but I can live with it if it
happens.
Clear now?
