King's Mist Comes Out Of The Fog
One of filmdom`s great collaborations has been Stephen King and Frank
Darabont. First came one of the all time great films "The Shawshank
Redemption" (based on the novella " Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption "
from "Different Seasons" by King, with direction and screenplay by
Darabont). Then came "The Green Mile" (based on the novel by King, with
direction and screenplay by Darabont). Now from the "Skeleton Crew"
collection we may see another collaboration for the pair with "The Mist."
Darabont has had the rights for years and always planned to film it but just
has never gotten around to it. Now, it seems, it may at last be happening.
Robert McCammon (author of "Mine") said on his website, that the film
version could begin filming as early as December 2005. Darabont was
scheduled to adapt the McCammon book first but that is looking unlikely for
now. Frank said: "I came close to getting Mine into production this year,
but it was a near-miss. I remain committed to making MINE. . . I`m hoping to
get the movie before the cameras at some point in 2006, although it might be
later that year rather than earlier. That`s because circumstance and
opportunity (the planets aligning) might dictate that I direct my adaptation
of Stephen King's great horror novella, The Mist, first. If so, I will
likely start shooting The Mist this coming December, `05."
