Has Hollywood grown less chicken?
FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) has just received the
assignment of his career: assemble an elite team (Jennifer Garner,
Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman) to hunt down and capture the terrorist
mastermind responsible for a deadly attack on Americans working in
Saudi Arabia. The feds have only one week to infiltrate and cripple a
cell bent on jihad to western society.
No training could prepare Fleury and his team for the disorienting
culture shock they face once inside this scorching foreign land,
Byzantine maze of politicians, shop-front terrorists and
double-crossing businessmen who traffic in profiteering and exploit any
opportunity to grow ever richer, no matter the human cost. Bound by
handlers who refuse to play ball with the US, the agents quickly find
the local law enforcement more hindrance than help and soon grow
uncertain of anybody's allegiance.
But when a sympathetic Saudi police captain helps them navigate Riyadh
politics and investigate the true cause of the attack, Fleury finds an
unexpected comrade-in-arms. >> Stay informed about: "The Kingdom." Finally, some bad Arabs? |

Bateman's great but Friday Night Lights wasn't enough to make me forget
that Peter Berg was the mastermind behind Very Bad Things. >> Stay informed about: "The Kingdom." Finally, some bad Arabs? |

Does anybody want to bet that the bad guys in this movie turn out to be
the US Government/Military, who are manipulating the poor, innocent
Islamofascists into making their attack so our Military-Industrial
Complex can make lots of money by going to war and exploting and
murdering these fine, upstanding people who harbor absolutely no ill
will against the evil Americans. >> Stay informed about: "The Kingdom." Finally, some bad Arabs? |

Thanks RickA. I'd never heard of this movie before. The casting of Jason
Bateman has got me interested though; I became a fan of his after Arrested
Development.

Not sure I cared for the trailer much.

Ok this is where I call bullshit. All Saudi Arabs are scum until proven
otherwise. >> Stay informed about: "The Kingdom." Finally, some bad Arabs? |

This is the most unlikely part, that the US security services have the
capability to "infiltrate" an Arab group. >> Stay informed about: "The Kingdom." Finally, some bad Arabs? |

It wouldn't surprise me. Who'd have thought that the only realistic
portrayals of Arabs would come from a TV show (Sleeper Cell).
Hollywood would like us to believe they are trying to foster the spirit
of brotherhood by not portraying any Arabs as terrorists but there is
no love lost between the people who run Hollywood and the Arabs. It
all comes down to the fact the Hollywood cabal is just plain scared.
Which is why all villains are either wealthy WASPs or fantasies like a
Spiderman nemesis. >> Stay informed about: "The Kingdom." Finally, some bad Arabs? |

Yeah, I know what you mean. Because the truth is, the Arabs hate us
because of all of our freedoms. And they're jealous, too, of our rich
movie stars.

| Related Topics: | Finally saw Beerfest: not bad - I never saw Super Troopers, but caught Club Dread, and thought it had some very funny parts (the real life pacman course for example). I'd been meaning to give Beerfest a try despite the generally poor reviews and boxoffice. I finally got around to it....
Finally Saw The Queen - Holy Cow, did Mirren *and* Alex Jennings (virtually unrecognizable; deserves a Supporting Actor nod) put on a show. The film is almost (almost) a homage to Blair. One of Elizabeth's last lines undercuts him, his place in history, and all the sympathy..
finally an interesting subject for a bio-pic - There's a new Bettie Page bio-pic coming out. I hope they get it at least half correct and don't portray her as a victim.
Finally, some good films - Fall season begins with : Hollywoodland about George Reeves career and mysterious death, and Superman, cult of celebrity, etc... The Last Kiss : has Zach Braff (Garden State) and written by Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby, Crash), seems promising..
Finally .. for the best cleavage .. walking down the red c.. - _____________________________________-- place your bets... |
