Good to hear that. I wish you'd have poured out the cup and brewed a new one.
BTW- what IS that horriffic whining sound in the score.? Musical Saw,
Theremin, or something else?
I'll try to be nice.

Yes, I DO play musical saw myself, but I try to produce recognizable tunes. >> Stay informed about: LONESOME (1928) in 35mm? |

And here I'm complaining about whining! Yes it's a musical saw. My
partner Terry is doing in command (or perhaps not). He tries to
produce recognizable tunes too.

Thanks for the info. I hope I wasn't insulting, I suppose that in context it was
supposed to sound horrific.

Mont Alto always has the convenient excuse that we don't write the
music we play, we just select it and play it. So if we play some
little soppy excrescence of a cutesy novelette, we're just stating the
facts. It's only when we select a soppy cutesy piece when a soppy
cutesy piece isn't actually called for by the action that we open
ourselves to criticism.
P.S. I've reposted two audio files from the upcoming Kino THIEF OF
BAGDAD on our site, under Recordings. You can also read the annotated
cue sheet (a DVD extra) if you are that crazy about silent film era
cue sheets and composers. THIEF OF BAGDAD is our most
hardware-intensive score, with sound effects from a fan cage, a
tamtam, a teiko drum, an abacus, and two socket wrenches!

My problems with the print were the low volume level of the talking
scenes which accentuates a bad 60 hz hum , and the clunks when they
cut the talkie scenes in. Both of these problems would seem to be
from the original (sound version) and are simply reproduced in the
Eastman house restoration. >> Stay informed about: LONESOME (1928) in 35mm? |

For our upcoming Milestone release of SUDS I've done a dub remix based
on sounds of our old washing machine. The emotional climax is
heightened by the contents of the pockets of my daughter's jeans as
they tumble through the dryer.
