I would put FOTR amongst my top ten films (I'm not an avid Tolkien fan,
although did read all of the books I could find about it around 20 years
ago).

The Two Towers I thought was disappointing, although still good.

Just seen ROTK today and couldn't believe how well put together it was.

The battle scenes were awesome - the best I have ever seen in a movie in
giving a sense of scale and the feelings of hope/despair/fear etc.

I thought the ending was done very well and must admit that I didn't miss
the "scouring of the Shire" particularly, although I do remember being
annoyed in TTT about a misportrayal of Faramir(!)

Anyhow, I did have my doubts about seeing it as I was worried it might not
manage to pull all of the threads together adequately in the time given. My
fears, however, were entirely unfounded.

Even my wife enjoyed it greatly, without having seen the first 2.

I don't expect it will win any Oscars, but I believe they are irrelevant
anyway. Just a shame because so many of the case are obviously keen to win
one.

I will win lots of oscars, just not the big enchalada. Politics will prevail
and the academy seems not to like movies that make the big bucks.
