As well it might be...

But then I'm not making the argument.
Merely stating they could be seen in the movie TTT.

It makes them cooler. :)

I'm not blond, however, and I am quite aware that the 'facts' tend to favor the
no-wings side of the argument. :)

Illogical conclusion. I said we could talk about whether the Balrog has wings
and discuss that for a decade or so. Now, one could argue that I just threw out
the 'decade' part without any further thought, and I just as easily could have
said "Let's discuss forks for a decade or so" but it would be more logical to
assume that I had some form of experience about the subject and could
appriciate how long such a discussion would take (as if a decade would
suffice!) based on what has already happened in this area. Either way, we know
that the movies didn't exist a decade (or longer!) ago.

Plus, if I were talking about the movies, it would be a pretty stupid question
to pose - the Balrog in the Peter Jackson movie quite obviously has wings.

You didn't question the motives of such a discussion above and the presented an
argument why there would be no need for such an discussion? Hmmm?

Precisely.

IE.. I don't actually care.

If you want an actual answer however.....
It *seems* to me in the book that wings are a feature.
And in the films it certainly is.

There y'go !

Granted, but I deeply agree with your "weakly" sentiment.

If there's nothing to say about Alien, and its ilk... so be it... it's
only NG. From my POV it takes no effort to stay subscribed to it,
and no effort at all to watch what little traffic there is. If
something comment-worthy comes up: all good. If not: so what. I'm
bemused by the idea that anyone would have any sense of sentimentality
about a.c-m.a. And - whilst I think it's a pointless statistic - I
believe I'm the second longest standing poster here (that
wwrwrwrwvvmvmmrmwm chap being the longest; maybe Covenant pipping me
as well? I don't know / care).

If I want to discuss LotR - which I don't other than superficially (as
per my post) - I'll go to a suitable NG. Although I'm always one to
put in my oar on any subject, so... yeah, whatever.

I'd sooner discuss Scott's / (*) / Fincher's / Jeunet's other films
than Peters Jackson's ones here, and it'd be *kind of* on topic.

On the other hand, I'm pretty much over suggesting what people should
/ should not discuss here (I'm thinking Glenn, when I say that).
Which is good, because your current exchange with Sandman on another
thread is making my skin crawl. But each to their own.

Anyway. That was some meaningless typing. Which I've now finished.

Adam

And you cant get your head around the fact that some of us actually do make
and gain genuine friends on usenet. I have met a few people from usenet and
have spoken on the phone to a few too - thats how *close* I have become to
the so called faceless ones. Its a matter of choice. You bring it up alot
about how a few of us tend to get ourselves emotionally tied in one way or
another - that we take it too seriously. (You mean, you dont??!!! Dont
seem like it to me!!). To some of us, usenet is a form of communication
that includes having fun and frivolity, the odd flirtatious banter and, at
times, extremely serious discussions about extremely serious issues - yes,
off topic - but if we are interested and curious, the compulsion is there.
You have a right to your opinion, of course, but I am just telling you how
it is for me, and I dont have to be insulting when conveying my thoughts,
either :))

If you arent interested in anything I have to say stop reading the posts
(!!!) or, even better, killfile me again - it doesnt bother me in the
slightest.

Pardon me if I don't think Sandman's panty-sniffing banter constitutes
"making friends". And like I suggested... *go yer hardest* (err... I
mean... ;-)

> and I dont have to be insulting when conveying my thoughts,

Which part of what I said was insulting? Did you actually read what I
said, or did you just decide for yourself what I was likely to be
saying, and run with that?

On reflection, maybe it was the "skin crawl" thing, I guess. Fair
enough, but hey: it's my opinion. I don't expect anyone else to
revise their own opinion of things simply because I choose to state my
own one (opinion). Like I said "each to their own".

>If you arent interested in anything I have to say stop reading the posts

Ah. The old "you're free to express your opinions, but you don't
reserve me the right to express mine, if they don't match with yours"
argument. Heh. Nice one. You can magine my reaction to that.

>(!!!) or, even better, killfile me again - it doesnt bother me in the

Well you've moved on and grown since the last time I said I was going
to killfile you then. This is a good progression.
