Where exactly is Middle Earth? Is it supposed to be on our earth but many
years ago, or is it somewhere else in our universe or is it another
dimension?

Totally mythical, of course. But it seems to be about the size of England.

I wouldn't think about it to much.....they seem to have swords made from
steel which really stuffs up the carbon dating somewhat :)

Needing someone is like needing a parachute. If they aren't there the
first time, chances are you won't need them again.

Its never really stated. In fact you may as well ask where any fantasy or
fiction world is 'set' (assuming the writer doesn't say ).
Every theory is as good as another.
I have a theory that we had to believe they really exist somewhere, eg in
another dimension or they are possibilities that could have been played out,
or given an infinite universe and an infinite number of worlds etc etc.

I think we find it hard to say its just all made up.

"The Cat Who Could Walk Through Walls" or "Number Of The Beast" by
Heinlein has that for the subject.

LOTR - Gollum ???? - The LOTR films are absolutely fantastic I'm talking about the first two - haven't seen 3 yet, (my wizard costume isn't ready yet so I can't go) BUT..... am I the only person here who think they blew it a bit with the representation of Gollum? He's much...

LOTR ending? - I have a question about the ending of ROTK Some spoiliers below: At the end when they all go to meet Gandolf and the Elves, why were they all leaving? I know they stated something about the time of the elves is over. Why did they take Gandolf and....

Easter Eggs on LOTR - TTT EE? - Just got this box, marvelous, marvelous! The Two Towers Ext. is a better film. Anyone know of Easter Eggs on this 4-dvd set?

only one thing would have saved the LOTR idiocy... - if kubrick had made that movie of it with the beatles, with mccartney as frodo and lennon as that ugly bloke

LOTR: ROTK - best movie in a long time - I would put FOTR amongst my top ten films (I'm not an avid Tolkien fan, although did read all of the books I could find about it around 20 years ago). The Two Towers I thought was disappointing, although still good. Just seen ROTK today and couldn't..
