Sorry, should have made this a new thread - apologies!! SB
Hi Philip,
Not many of you here at RAMPS will know that we (my family and I) have
had what has turned out to be the most challenging year of our lives
here at home. I wont bore you here but events took a turn last October
that somewhat wrong footed us and we have been trying to get back to
normality ever since.
Life is somewhat improved right now and I felt like I deserved a
'treat'. I had been looking at the LRX box for a while, and felt that
it might be an interesting purchase on many levels. My thoughts
included that:-
1] It could at a pinch work as a replacement for either Deva or Cameo
in the event of a problem with either.
2] It would get me back to where I was some years ago as a SDAiE
classic owner - I like the company, their products, and their
philosophy. They are nice guys to know and to deal with.
3] It would allow me to start clearing up that backlog of recordings
(pals bands and friend and family concerts) that had been recorded
(some many years ago) but never edited or cds made!!
4] It would allow me to record some new bands for pals and to remix and
edit them neatly. This is for fun really, not as a business
enterprise!! (In fact we are out in a fortnights time to do a pal's Pat
Metheney Tribute Big Band!!).
I bought my LRX as a v1 (up to 16, maybe 24 channels) and almost
immediately they announced the v2, which can do up to 48 IP's (and yes,
we think we will need them for the big band!!). Mine is in as I write
for the upgrade (mainly just a piggy bak board with a shedload more
dsp).
I was so taken with the LRX, as was my business partner, SimonClark,
that we decided to buy an LRX2 for our tiny little hire company. We
felt that there was a hole in the market to do large track count, small
footprint multitrack recorders for reality type shows and now we are
wondering about buying more units.
We got the LRX 2 for the company about 3 weeks ago, and have been
sorting out flightcases and IP/OP cables and stuff for it. The hire
unit went out on a reality show job a week ago and theyare delighted
with it. It was an easy gig for the LRX2 at just 16 tracks at the
busiest, but I now have a boking for an 8 week shoot on a rather well
known reality format which will require rather more tracks.
One of the brilliant things about the LRX is that SADiE have made a
version of the software, MTR (as in multi track recorder) which can be
learned quite literally in about 15 mins. It is a one screen cut down
version of SADiE, so a project recorded in MTR can be opened at a later
date in full SADiE software and worked on for post for real. The MTR
software is possibly the easiest piece of recording software I have
used in a very long time indeed. It is a joy.
Anyway - enough - I have to tidy up for a party later, so had better
shoot for now.
More details on LRX2 on the SADiE website of course.

Regards to all, enjoy the weekend.
