"The Wrong Box" (British 1966)
Nutty comedy about a tontine. A very young
Michael Caine holds his own against Wilfred
Lawson, John Mills and Ralph Richardson.
A treat.

I've always loved _The Wrong Box_. I saw it first run in 1966 and nearly
did myself an injury. Since then, the hilarity has somewhat toned down
for me to a quieter appreciation of the many talents involved.
Wilfred Lawson plays Peacock, the frail but faithful butler, to a rare
perfection.
You did fail, however, to mention either Dudley Moore and Peter Cook,
one of the great comic film teams of all times, or Peter Sellers, who
does a memorable cameo as Doctor Pratt.

Munchhausen (1943) - A great companion piece to Gilliam's film --
you could even argue that his version is a bit of a sequel.

A whole slew of British character actors in this one, all good, and about
two dozen cats. Aside from not mentioning Cook and Moore and Sellers,
I did not mention the author of the mayhem, Larry Gelbart. A lovely
piece of work.

Did not see the Gilliam version, but I own the German "Munchhausen"
and like it very much, Beautifully done color in the restored version.
Surprising (well, maybe not that surprising for UFA) for 1943 wartime
Germany.

Not to mention Tony Hancock as the inspector, a brilliant,

Is that the movie where Sellers is surrounded by cats (moggies) and
sometimes uses them as ink blotters? - Funny stuff!

Now that we all agree that "The Wrong Box" is a work of genius,
who do we have to lean on to get it reissued on DVD. My VHS
copy has the first 15 seconds of title screwed up. Would like
to get a pristine copy.

It's just hard to use the words "genius" and "Bryan Forbes" in the
same sentence. >> Stay informed about: Lat Movie Watched |
