PBS is currently airing a doc on Broadway stars` recollections of their
earliest introduction to the N.Y. stage . Many of them chose Laurette
Taylor in The Glass Menagerie as the greatest performance seen. Included
in the segment was a bit of her screen test for sound film. It was
remarkable for her ability to provide depth to the meaning of words and
ideas in a low key way. I recall seeing her in the silent Peg O` My
Heart ( when she was "too old" for the role ). Anyone see her in
anything else ? Was she the greatest actress of all time ?

I recently played for both PEG O' MY HEART and HAPPINESS and she is
quite good in both of them.

I thought it was an absolutely stunning clip. Does anyone have any
idea what film she was testing for? I couldn't tell if the dialogue
was from a stage play or specifically for the film.
