I'm looking at going from using 411As to using either the SixPack or
the Venue from Lectrosonics. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on
each of the two, what you feel of the pros/cons of each and any good
or bad experiences you've had with either setup. The rackmount of the
venue won't be a problem for me since I'm about to add a rack case to
my kit.

Thanx,
marque

I like my 6 pack very much. It is large and heavy but on the cart it's not
an issue. The Venue is much smaller than the 6 Pack. The 6 Pack powers all
6 radios all day and more if I don't have power available. The best thing
it has going for it is that if I loose a power supply on one radio I still
have 5 more. If the Venue has a power supply problem, I've lost all 6.

I just went through this myself already having 4 411/400 UM systems in
one block and a pair of 4 out multicoulpers. I wanted a total of 6
radios in 2 different blocks. I decided on the Venue because I would
have to buy some 2 block multicouplers as well as 2 more 411's for more
money than a Venue and 6 receivers. I kept the 411's and couplers and
put them in an old Deva shell as a grap and go quad box to use in an
insert car if needed, and to use the receivers in a ENG pack when
needed.

You just have to decide between cost, mobility, and backup if you need
service on the Venue.

Well let me give everyone some more info....

I have 4 411As and 2 UMs & 2 SMs all in different blocks (hey its tough
to find enough space in 1 block in NY). I have 28&29 and 25&26. I
don't plan on getting rid of the 411As so they would be my back in the
case of the venue going down plus I would still use them for my ENG
work. My film package currently is the 4 Lectros, I mix on up to two
SD 442s running into two linked 744Ts (8 channels and cheaper than the
Deva). I also have a comtek system 216, my laptop and a 7" monitor all
on my rock n roller cart shelf. I'm looking at moving to a rack unit
with two 8" LCDs, comteks running off of a BST, Furman for power, my
laptop, the 744Ts and I'm shopping for a more apt mixer as well.

While the cost is always a factor I just want to get it right now no
matter the cost then have to correct for it later. Mobility I'm not as
concerned about since I have not intensions on parting with my 411As,
same for backup. If I add two more I'll probably get the other 411As,
but I'm not sure.

Thanx for all the suggestions!

What do you deliver on? Can you make one BWF Poly DVD with 8 tracks?
That is what I am requested to deliver to telecine and audio post as
well.

I usually deliver as two BWF poly with 4 tracks each also usually on
DVDs. Most of the projects I work on only have the first two tracks go
through sync with the lab, I usually give instructions to just transfer
the boom. The audio post houses I've worked with haven't cared if its
two files so much as one, and sometimes the projects I end up handeling
the syncing and do a bit of sweetening myself before it gets sent out
to an audio post house.

Maybe this would be different if I wasn't in the ultra low/ low budget
indie circuit but most people I work for are amazed that I can do 8
seperate tracks they don't care.
