Am I going crazy?
I seem to be needing to push the gain on my Lectro's as of late!
Usually, I would have them set approx 1-2 o'clock (with a COS-11), but
lately I have been running them around 4 o'clock to get the same
output. (limit LED lights up about 10% of the time) I've tried
differnt lavs (Tram, VT 400 and B6) all with similar results (although
the B6 is a little hotter)
Another possible clue is that when I play with the gain on the Tx (no
mic connected) the amount of noise or hiss jumps a bit at the 4
o'clock position (not a smooth and even transition)
Could the pots on my Tx's both be in need of replacement?

Hi Jason,
At 4 o'clock the wiper on the pot is leaving the carbon resistance
track and moving to the metal terminal. Basically, you are changing
from some fairly small resistance to no resistance at all. The bigger
question is why you are forced to operate in that region.
Since you have two units with "low gain", and a variety of mics, and
you are judging the gain (correctly) at the transmitter, I have no
clue. It seems odd that two units would do the same thing. Is there
any other common thing that has changed recently?
Best Regards,

Hi Larry,
No big changes recently...although one of my Rx's all of a sudden
became VERY noisy when powered externally (NP-1) Turns out the T-
power switch on my mixer, on that channel (ch 1, buried deep in the
bag!!) got switched on. It took me a couple of days to figure that
one out.
Back to the other 'problem"...
I'll run a few tests this evening.

A brief update...
I tried 5 different mics with 2 different Tx's.
Tram
B6
Lectro M-150
Sanken COS-11 X 2
Both transmitters need to be turned up to the 2nd last tick mark to
get a reasonable level (mic placed about 6 inches from my mouth) and
the Tram had to be turned up all the way. With one of the
transmitters, when the trim pot is turned all the way up, the signal
cuts out completely!!! Looks like a trip to Front & Spadina ASAP :)

Hi Jason,
Let me know what they find. I'm curious why two units exhibit the same
uncommon failure.
