I am looking at getting a Lectrosonics SR receiver with two LM
transmitter for a camera hop and after researching the forum about
post about them i came across one with the mention of another project
lectros as for a dual UCR411 with SMA detachable antenna. In trying
the SR for a camera hop i was going to test it with the idea of
swapping my for UCR411 for two SR's. So i guess my questions are more
toward Lectros.

1- Is there a project for such a dual receiver in the works???
2- Is there going to be a noticeable difference in performance in
bethween four UCR 411 or two SR in a bag situation ( let's say four
Receiver on block 21 and two on block 24 as a wireless camera hop )???
3- When would the new system come out???

Thank you very much for any response.

Pascal.

PS. I believe, Mr Fisher, that we meet in Las Vegas on solving the RF
issues at the Cirque du Soleil show Zumanity where i was the assistant
head, and i remember that Lectro was the only manufacturer that
actually looked at the other RF in the room as part of their analisys
and not simply saying that they were the issue and needed to address
their problem. My full name is Pascal Van Strydonck, i was part of
Jonathan Deans design circle for that show.

Hi Pascal,
Yes, I remember the show well. Good to hear from you again.

1. We will start on a new generation two channel receiver after we
get done with the SR. The added battery compartment will be the
biggest change. At the moment it is just so much hot air at Lectro but
that's the way all the projects start. We will apply a lot of what we
have learned in the SR project to the next receiver. Assume that the
next receiver is a year away.

2. Two SR's compared to 4 UCR411's will be much smaller, cheaper per
channel, lighter and pull less current. The SR RF performance is in
the middle of a UCR401 and UCR 411. We never recommended the UCR401
for bag use and it seems to work just fine. (yes, I know there should
be a "but" in there). With some frequency separation between the
incoming and the outgoing signals, the 401 survives the bag
environment. The SR has a better front end and should work a little
better if you use same care in selecting blocks, such as your choice
of blocks 21 and 24.

3. We have some beta units operating with network friends and have
not run into any electrical problems. Performance seems to be fine.
There have been some mechanical changes by the manufacturers of the
cameras and they didn't call to clear those changes with us (I wish).
So we are feverishly machining new adapter plates for one brand of
camera. This wouldn't affect the bag setup of course. We will have a
firmer schedule as to release date in a few weeks.

Look me up at NAB.
Best Regards,
Larry Fisher

Thank you Larry for the answer. For me it is a matter of trying to
making the rig a little lighter and smaller. I currently use four
UCR411 on Block 21 wired directly to my Sound devices 442 inputs one
for one. My fourth UCR ( input 4 on the mixer ) as two transmitter, a
UM400 and a UH400A. They are both set to different frequency and i
switch the frequency in bethween the two in order to go from the pack
to a wireless boom. I have had some minor issues with having the
UH400 close to my UCR creating little drift noise when i was crossing
my boom from one side to the next. I guess i am wondering if the SR
( without the tracking front end ) will behave fine in this scenario.
RF was, Montreal is not crowded and as long as i keep in block 21,22
and 24 i am fine. What is the big thing with tracking front end???
Does it make a big difference??? I would like to keep the range i
currently have with the system, would it give me the same if i was
using SR???

For now, the idea is the get a block 24 SR with a pair of LM pack and
use them for wireless camera hop. I will also try it in the bag for
now and see what are the goods and bad about it. In the futur, if the
system performs great ( no noticeable difference in bethween the 411
and the SR, i mean real life difference ), i would replace my four
UCR411 by two SR on block 21 for the input of the mixer and use the
block 24 SR with the LM's for camera hop.

I recently mounted my 442 mixer and my 744T in a Sound devices camrade
bag ( CS-4 ) and there is a little space left in front of the 744 to
squeeze in the SR. I know RF interference is a possibility but so far
my block 21 UCR are just fine with that. That way i could remove the
RM multi pouch in the front and get a much smaller pouch made for the
same place, thus reducing the size and lever effect of the bag.

I never used detachable antennas on the UCR, and since i would be
wireless to the camera, if rang is an issue, i could always get myself
closer ( hidden from the camera ) in bethween talent and DOP to almost
double my range.

What do you think, do you think i should hang-on to my UCR411 ( not
understanding what front end tracking does for me ) or swap everything
for SR and have an happy back???

Thanks for your time.

Well i guess for me it boils down to knowing if the SR will have as
much range as the UCR411A. At this time i get a solid 75' with no
worries but beyond that i start getting nervous. It's simple if the
SR have the same range then i will switch. Just really enthusiast
about the new stuff.

If they are saying that the SR is between the UCR401 and UCR411a then
you will be fine.

I am feeling that way too. I will most likely put in an order at Trew
on Monday for my camera hop. I had a Zaxcom ( brand new ) that was
very promising ( all the function, size, self contained etc... ) but
for some odd reason i really did not like the interface and kept
fighting with the system and ended up not trusting it ( most likely
because by that time i was simply not positive about it ). But i
always had no issues with trust or user interface with the Lectros.
Trust me, when it comes to user interface, i know my way around, i
worked on multi-million dollars sound system for live theatrical and
when you want to talk about a collection of different interface, this
was the place to be!!!

BTW, i like reading your post ( and response ) Scott, you are always
dead on the money and are thinking in a very technical manner. Keep
on posting, it's great!!!
