Have any movies been made based on the Left Behind series? If not, I
suggest that Christians do so as a counter to The Da Vinci Code.

Pushed ahead but left behind all the things it takes to make a good
movie.

Yes. Catholics can believe that too, actually.

I once heard a fake newscast on a Midwestern radio show, which
announced that the rapture has occurred, and all of those Taken were
LUTHERANS. It got a HUGE laugh from the studio audience.

I didn't get it. I wouln't figure Lutherans would believe in the
Rapture. Or was that the joke? Anyone know?

It's not a club.

Why IS it that people who obviously have zero knowledge of Catholicism
go around making pronouncements about it? I don't go around making
pronouncements about Buddhism.

Neither "Christ was single" nor "Mary Magdalene was a prostitute" are
or ever have been articles of faith of the Roman Catholic Church.
"Mary Magdalene was a prostitute" is, far from being an article of
faith, no longer even he OPINION of the Church. Hasn't been their
opinion for more than half a century, I believe. But you can still be
of the opinion that she WAS - or even make a movie saying that she
was -- and be a Catholic, because "Mary Magdalene was NOT a prostitute"
isn't an article of faith EITHER.

There are TWO ways that a Catholic becomes a Non-Catholic. One is that
you renounce your faith and say "I am no longer a Catholic".
Another is that they formally kick you out. Until one of those things
happens, you can be a good or bad Catholic, an ignorant or
knowledgeable Catholic, a compliant or defiant Catholic, a Catholic who
is "living in sin" or one who isn't. But according to the RULES
of the Catholic Church -- which YOU clearly wouldn't know from the
rules of Quiddich - you are still a Catholic just the same.

That's who I was listening to. He would make jokes about Lutherans all
the time. They always got a huge laugh. All he had to do was mention
Lutherans and it got a laugh. I didn't get it. They seemed to find
Unitarians amusing also.

This is a serious question. Please don't take it as trolling.

Wouldn't it be Catholics who would most want to counter The Da Vinci Code
(TDVC) with their own movie? I mean.. You can easily be a Christian and not
be bothered at all about TDVC, since a "Christian" is just one who believes
that Jesus was divine, right? You can be a Christian and believe that he
was married and had kids etc. etc., so isn't it just those who believe in
certain parts of certain translations of certain editions of the bible who
should be offended by TDVC? And the Catholics should be the most offended
of all, since they are the ones with Opus Dei, right?

Well, no.. they can't. If they do, they're not Catholics. It's a simple
issue of the definition of the word "Catholic". To be a Catholic, you have
to follow the Catholic rules as laid down by the Catholic church. It's
their club. They write the rules. They get to change the rules too, but
until they do, you ain't a Catholic if you don't believe that Jesus was
celibate and Mary Magdalene was a hooker (among other beliefs, of course).
It's as simple as that.

wager?...)

Lutherans ALWAYS find Unitarians amusing. :)

rapture joke, too)

So why were so many Catholics including "highly placed spokesman at
the Vatican" upset about a story which suggested for narrative
purposes that Christ wasn't single?

The first two books were made into TV movies.
I'm guessing you could probably make a trilogy out of it.
The first volume stands on its own. Then there is a
noticeable slowdown and repition in the remaining volumes.
I'd make 2-8 a middle movie and 9-10 the finale.

I am seeing more of what I call "Christian science fiction",
that is intermixing Christian stories with modern or post-modern
events.
Movies like Da Vinci, Left Behind, Oh God, Shoes of a Fisherman, might
fit into
this. Perhaps the Narnia series too. I wouldn't put Star Wars or
Lord of the Rings in this group. Though they had strong religious
undertones, Star Wars was more eastern mysticism (Daoism) and
LOTR was germanic polytheism.
