I read somewhere that the forthcoming DVD of 1940's The Letter was
supposed to also contain the 1929 version. I can find no information
on Amazon or elsewhere if this is true. Can anyone confirm this before
I order it? Thanks.
Louie

I, too, am eagerly awaiting this release, which is due Jan.11. I would
suggest waiting a few days until Amazon lists the contents of the disk, but
I am pretty sure it will contain the Jeanne Engels film as well as the Bette
Davis one.

There is some controversy about this over on Home Theater Forum. The
screener copies sent out to reviewers apparently did NOT contain the
1929 version of THE LETTER and attempts to find out whether it will be
included in the version that appears in stores on January 11th has
resulted in conflicting information. We will just have to wait and
see, I guess.

I am looking forward to the alternate 1940 ending. From the first time I
saw the film (in 1940), I have never been satisfied with the ending.

Well, that's convincing.

Judging by the screen caps at DVD Beaver, where the special features menu
has no reference to the earlier version, I would say it is not included.
Even if it was featured on the flip side, the menus would normally says
something like "turn the disc over to access special feature X". Also
someone at HTF claims a contact at Warners confirms that the material on the
test disc is identical to the street version.

I hope I'm wrong, but that's 3 reviews I have seen now with no mention of
the 1929 version.
