Old Movie...Looking for the Title

Need anyone's help. Seen a movie as a child and only remember the basics of the story. The family had died or moved away but the male child decided to alter the interior of the home and live in it without anyone knowing. Some how the family lives in the house because a peep hole is seen or something like that.
