Hey all,

So does anyone know if this new Mutual set is simply the BFI versions, or if
there's even more added to them? If they're using the Carl Davis scores, I
would guess that adding more footage would put those soundtracks out of
sync.

I recently saw the new versions of ONE AM and THE RINK at the Niles
Film Festival (on video) and although David Shepard introduced them as
the versions that will be included in the upcoming Image DVD release,
I thought I detected some of the tell-tale artifacting that you
typically see in NTSC conversions from PAL masters.

If I had to guess, the upcoming DVD will be the same as the BFI
versions, although it would be interesting to have David S. clarify.
The Carl Davis scores are great, but not that tightly synched.

It sure was cool to see the extra 7 minutes of footage in ONE AM!

I have the BFI Chaplin Mutuals Region 2 PAL DVDs and THE RINK ends
before Eric Campbell and the others trip and fall over each other on
the street. Unless the Image disc is going to be different with more
footage on this title, we shall see.
ONE AM does have the additional mountain climbing footage.

I hope they haven't given us ANOTHER lousy PAL -> NTSC transfer with
motion artifacts. We had enough of that from M2K.

Guess I'll be waiting for reviews before buying this. Thanks for the
heads-up, John.

This worries me a little. Usually IMAGE DVD's are EXCELLENT, I can't
believe that they would even CONSIDER taking the cheap way out and
converting the PAL to NTSC. I was going to buy this on the day of
release, but now I will wait until I read some reviews.

If I'm paying $60 for this, I expect a top quality, ultimate edition
release, considering I already have these movies on both DVD and VHS
like 5 or 6 times. Don't let us down IMAGE, your the ones that do it
RIGHT, remember?

I guess I should mention here that I received an off group message
from Mr. Shepard assuring me that the new Image DVD set is *not* a PAL
to NTSC conversion.

Just a couple of days before the Niles Festival I got fitted for my
first set of progressive eyeglass lenses and there is an adjustment
period, so maybe my eyes played tricks on me.
