Hello all... i was wondering if you have any advices / experiences
renting gear. I've been renting out packages at highly discounted
rates to friends in the business and throughout the years i've
accumulated lots of gear to the point that i can probably put 3 ENG
packages together as well as 2 full timecode packages. I'd love to
start renting more instead of selling all the extra equipment. I know
the major production sound houses usually rent but i think i have
something to offer here by letting packages go out at a very
discounted rate. Feel free to respond here or contact me by email if
you'd like to personally give me advices. Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,

I rent my single package and I find it a good way to supplement
income,. But only when I am not working it.
It is convient for me, I freelance and have the time to check in and
out before and after every rental and keep a eye on the goods
Its just a Qc thing, and I think if i had 3 packages going out. it
would be difficult to keep up with all the gear comming and going, and
also working.
But if you can do it
Right on!

I'd suggest all working rental agreements to be in writing. Last think
you want is for it all to go sideways after things have been set in
motion.

The best part about you renting out complete packages as a sound mixer
is you can provide a complete rig which is guaranteed to work because
you have put it together. That means a lot.

Insurance, Insurance, Insurance

start with making good insurance policy as the damages of renting gear to
idiots who don't know how operate or keep it in good shape would be much
then you have now .
just remember when they call in the middle of the night....:-)
