This is one of the more interesting horror films I've seen lately. A
group of college kids headed for a desert rave get stranded at an
abandoned hotel. There, they keep just-not-seeing horribly mutilated
people (like a half of a man). All the while, they're stalked by a
barely seen creature armed with a variety of spinning, cutting weapons.
The premise sounds predicatable as all hell, I know, but I think it
works really well. There is plenty of suspense and a few good scares.
And it's all tied up in the end with a twist that makes it all make
sense. Thumbs up from me.

Man, I'd keep my thumbs down! Spinning, cutting weapons around?

The entire premise is ripped off from another film. The film name is below
(spoiler space added)

I didn't understand the ending. I had to watch the end again with the
director's commentary on. Then I understood it.

I didn't understand the ending. Says it all really, but... :-)

I had never even heard of the film Reeker until I saw it in
Blockbuster videos. my wanted to rent it and passed it to me and said:
"What do you think?"

"Never heard of it." I said. Sometimes when I come across a film that
I have never heard of and rent it I find that the reason that I have
not heard of it is because it is a load of old... well, let's be nice
here and say just a load :-)

At times like that I look to see who is in the cast. If there is a big-
name actor in the film then I think it might be worth trying. If I
recognize the name of an actor and know that they are a good actor, I
think it might be worth trying. If I don't recognize any of the names
I think there is probably a 50/50 chance that it could be a... a load.
If my wife really wants to see it though, hell, it aint worth getting
in an argument over. Michael Ironside is in Reeker and I have been a
fan of him since he was in 'V' so no arguments necessary, I gave it a
chance.

It was on okay film and I quite liked it. I had no idea what was
happening to the kids though. Some monster was getting them and that
was all that I knew. Why was there a leggless-trucker hopping arond on
his hands? I had no idea. Didn't care, because I thought that it would
all be explained in the end, and, like I said, I was enjoying the film
okay (wouldn't want to use that toilet, by the way... ughhhh!).

When the end came though, I just thought: what the f@*# was all that
about. And my wife said: "What happened there?" I didn't understand
it, she didn't understand it. I am sure though that a lot of people
probably understand it okay, but we didn't. If we had seen it on TV or
in the Cinema we would have never understood it. We watched it on DVD
though, so, "Hang on I said," and put on the director's commentary.
Then I went to the final chapter and watched it again - with the
benefit of the direcor's explanation of what the f@*# it was all
about. I understood it okay then.

I've just been dowstairs and checked with my wife, becuause I am
wondering now if we did rent it or buy it. Rental copies don't always
have the director's commentary, you see.

"Remember that film Reeker?" I said.
"Yeah."
"Did we rent it or buy it?"
"Bought it," she said. "It stinks, that film."

Says it all really, but in the end it is all a matter of taste. We
didn't really rate it, but that doesn't go to say the everyone will
feel the same way. There are plenty of people in this thread that seem
to like it and only one other person who, like me, didn't understand
it.

If you struggled with understanding REEKER, then I recommend you stay well
away from DONNIE DARKO and PRIMER.

I've never even heard of Primer (might check it out sometime), but I
have seen Donnie Darko a few times. I love it. It has a very sureal
feel to it, but I had no problems at all with understanding it.

Really? I had to watch it a couple of times and read the Wikipedia
article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donnie_Darko) before *I*
understood it. Read the article and see how closely your understanding
of it matches up.
