A) Has Romero ever said what he thought of Argento's cut?

B) What is the true director's cut? Is it the Cannes print (that is
available on dvd here and there) or the 127 minute cut?

C) What is the cut you prefer?

On the commentary he seems indifferent to it.

Romero considers the theatrical cut the director's cut.

The Argento cut. :P

Anybody who knows whether I should wait for the new Anchor bay release?
I've got the Dutch DVD, including the 139 cannes-cut and Argento's
version (which I found inferior). I haven't got the theatrical cut. Is
it worth while waiting or should I just by the divimax Anchor Bay DVD?

An overrated thriller for sure. I take it this is all referring to the
1968 Romero film and not the remake.

Well, the quality of the divimax is quite excellent. I haven't seen the Dutch
DVD, but I've heard the quality suffers. It may be worth waiting if you like
the movie. It's only in Sept the box is coming out, but then again it could be
pushed back... It is Anchor Bay, afterall.

I got this at Target for a measly $12.99, and it looks fabulous; the director
commentary is pretty dry, but it's certainly worth buying.

I have yet to hear of his opinion of it, but from what I've been told,
there's about 12 different editions floating about.

The Cannes print is often called the "Director"s Cut", and will probably be
re-released in the USA on DVD this Autumn. Romero considers the "U.S.
Theatrical version" to be his definitive edit.

> C) What is the cut you prefer?

The Cannes edit, but only for this exchange of dialogue:

Police Captain (on bullhorn): "Martinez! The people in this project are your
responcibility! We don't want any of them hurt...and neither do you!"

Roger (to himself): "I'm givin' you three minutes, Martinez."

Police Captain: "I'm givin' you three minutes, Martinez! Turn over your
weapons and surrender!"

Roger: "There's no charges against you."

Police Captain: "There are no charges against you or any of your people!"

Roger: "Yet."
