HELLO
A friend of mine who knows I was regarding the SD 302 offer it to me for
chrismas...good
I tested it yesterday, it's perfect for ENG i do in mountain but I have 2
questions.
First about the low cut filter ? It didn't seems to be very
effective....there not setup for lowcut....what do you think about it.
second about power consumption. It seems to be very hangry with power. I
powered it on 3 LR6 for this time but i will do a system that provide more
nrj for a long time. What did you use to do? (np 1 is to heavy ) Perhaps
sony lithium cells like for DV cam, Pb batteries...;
I'm waiting for you experience inpowering this mixer
Thanks
Laurent

They are 12 dB/octave filters, maybe you're used to steeper ones?

Since it accepts 5-14V at its external power connector, I'm building a
system to use Sony 7.2V lithium-ion camcorder batteries.

I get 8-12 hours of use from a set of Maha 2000 mAh NiMH batteries--with
one AKG C460B powered by P12, bouncing the meters to normal levels, and
driving a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones to a moderately loud
volume. There is a 5500 mAh version of the Sony battery available from
most vendors which has roughly 51/2 times the energy storage capacity of
those NiMH AA's and sseveral smaller options as well.

Hi Kurt,
It says 5 - 18 VDC on my 302. Are there 2 versions?

It depends upon what you want locut filters to accomplish, but I happen
to disagree with you. The lowcut filters on the 302 are really good in
my opinion. They're 12dB per octave as opposed to the ones on Shure's
FP33 which are only 6dB per octave and affect higher frequencies way too
much, IMHO. Try a nice full range mic with a healthy full range voice
and listen to the different settings. Note: the filters are actually
software swiched, so there is a brief lag before they kick in.

I haven't found the 302 to be particularly power hungry. To optimize
your power useage, make sure the LEDs are on low setting, don't turn the
headphones higher than you really need and only phantom power mics when
necessary.

There are many nifty features on this mixer, the nicest of which is the
sound quality.
