Archived from groups: uk>media>home-cinema (more info?)

I have a trusty Samsung 709 and on the back of it is a swicth thats says
PAL/NSTC its set to PAL and I can watch R1 disks to my hearts content, just
wont play some DVD R's so I treated myself to a Sony DVP-NS355 Multi-region
DVD Player, (this has no switch on it) but when I watch R1 disks all up the
left hand side the screen flashes and annoys the hell out of me, this is
something to do with the player outputing to NTSC and my TV not liking it,
my TV is a JVC AV32P10EK which supports NTSC.

Is there a DVD player on the market as reliable as the Samsung with a
similar switch? Or is there something else I can do?

I'm in a similar position, except that I'm looking for a VCR/DVD combi
that does the same thing as the Samsung 709, in other words that
displays NTSC as PAL 50 instead of putting it out as PAL 60 or NTSC.
It's true that several other brands - Cyberhome, etc, will also display
NTSC as PAL. But the quality of the 'conversion' or whatever it's doing
doesn't seem as good as the Samsung 709.

i needed a player that could do pal60 as my tv couldn't handle the NTSC
colour signal but could cope with 60hz

i have a pioneer player and i think a lot of them can do pal60, i got mine
from amazon and it's the Pioneer 360, players CD-R's ect too

My TV is supposed to be 100 hz does that mean it should cope with 60hz NTSC.

can't be sure mate, each tv is different but normally 100hz tv's can cope,
if it can handle an NTSC signal without flicking it should be fine. by
flicking i mean it'll look like the image is roatating around fromt top to
bottom.
