Looking for opinions and/or user experience...

Thinking of adding a "punchier" shotgun to my kit that will
pull-in/isolate dialogue. I've heard alot of great things about the
CS-3e, but I am a also a big fan of Sennheiser mics.

I'm currently using a Neumann KMR-81i -- so this is my benchmark. The
Neumann is a great mic, but lacks the reach I am looking for and is a
bit too open sounding in noisy environs.

Your thoughts?

Hey Brent,

I have used both of those mics on a Pirate Movie I recently mixed. I
have to say the Sanken CS-3e did an amazing job of pulling the dialogue
from noisey unfreindly environments. I also had some tough reaches and
the mic gave great results even when the actor was on the very edge of
the pickup pattern.

I recommend the Sanken CS-3e.

I work in noisy places all the time doing mostly docs....the Sanken
CS3-e is the best mic I ever had for this type of shooting.Gets the
dialog out of the mud and me out of trouble...

Thank you, everyone! It seems that the Sanken CS-3e is the hands-down
winner. Someone also recently pointed out to me that the Sanken had the
reach of the MKH-70, less the size. This is important, since I plan on
sharing the Rycote Zep I currently use for my KMR-81i with the Sanken.

Best Regards,
