What type of scanner does one need to locate an open channel for
Comteks? In Atlanta the most popular frequency (channel "A" 72.100
MHz) has been overpowered. A search of FCC licenses points to Verizon.

I noticed that most scanners do not include frequencies near channel
"A", the FM radio band, or the cellular spectrum. So I need a scanner
that reads "from DC to daylight". It should scan more than FM,
since the interference is probably data. The catch is that I don't
wish to pay much since I almost never need a scanner.

So do you have any advise about scanner models...and perhaps a rental
source for the device? I'd rather not spend $500 for something that
I might use but once.

I have 12 Lectro R1s for client headsets, but miss using my 6 Comteks
for dumb TC slates and such.

Comtek can help you decide on a new freq.. You'll need new crystals
for your RX. What is Verizon doing on 72.1 MHz? The scanner that I
use (if you want one anyone) is Sony "WaveHawk" from a few years
back--not cheap but does the job. I got blown out of A band here in SF
too, and Comtek was very helpful in setting me up in new bands.

I use an Icom R-10 hand held. It covers 70 mhz as well as UHF TV
channels and will do wide band FM.
