INT - BEDROOM - DAY.
Enter John. He goes to the window and we can see, from his POV, that
the car has pulled into the driveway and stopped. We (and John) can see
four men get out. We (and John) then see the driver pull off again.
Lepic directs the others to approach the villa from different
locations. John then smiles to himself and readies a shotgun.
On the soundtrack, we can hear that the men have entered the villa and
then we hear the maid call, "Monsieur Robie." John goes to the door.
CUT TO-
INT - VILLA - DAY. Maid, Lepic, policeman.
Enter John. Exit maid. Lepic speaks in English to John and tells him
they want to question him at police headquarters, as they feel he may
help with their enquiries (regarding the recent jewel thefts).
John, obviously to show the police how they can't fool him (and that he
knows they probably want to arrest him), looks out an exit and sees a
policeman standing guard. He smiles and asks to be allowed to change
clothes. He goes back upstairs and re-enters his bedroom. We can hear
it lock and Lepic gets suspicious. He and the policeman slowly begin to
ascend the stairs. Suddenly, we hear a gunshot and the two men pause
before running up the rest of the stairs. They struggle with the locked
door. CUT TO- >> Stay informed about: Scene by Scene: 'To Catch a Thief' (1955) |

EXT - OUTSIDE ROBIE'S VILLA - DAY. John.
John flags down a bus and boards. As it drives away, we can see the
policemen's car drive past them. CUT TO-
EXT - BUS - DAY. John.
John is sitting in the back of the bus. He looks back at the car and
sees it enter his villa driveway. He smiles and turns around. CUT TO-
INT - BUS - DAY. John.
John's attention is distracted by a couple of chirping birds in a cage
to his right. He gives a perturbed look to their owner, a little old
woman, who smiles apologetically back.
John looks to his left. (Hitchcock himself is seated on this side and
it almost appears that John is looking at him.) DISSOLVE TO- >> Stay informed about: Scene by Scene: 'To Catch a Thief' (1955) |

EXT - BERTANI'S RESTAURANT - DAY.
>From the bus, John disembarks and walks down some steps into an outdoor
restaurant, Bertani's. Walking through, he and a waiter's eyes meet.
The waiter (black-haired and with a white line in it) looks shocked and
uncomfortable and spills some champagne from a bottle he's in the
process of opening. At this, John throws him a mock-disappointed look.
Another older man sees John and studies him suspiciously.
John continues to walk past all the people and on into what must be the
reception area and the kitchens. The woman at reception looks shocked
at John himself and, when John has walked past her, seeks out someone
with her eyes out in the restaurant itself. CUT TO- >> Stay informed about: Scene by Scene: 'To Catch a Thief' (1955) |

INT - BERTANI'S OFFICE - DAY.
Enter John. In the office, there is a whole wall of window/glass,
through which can be seen the kitchens. We can see men working in the
kitchens. As John is looking, an egg suddenly smashes in front of his
face. The culprit, however, can't be seen when John looks to see who
threw it.
Enter Bertani. John and he talk.
Exit Bertani. Exit John (into the kitchen). CUT TO- >> Stay informed about: Scene by Scene: 'To Catch a Thief' (1955) |

INT - BERTANI'S OFFICE - DAY.
Enter Bertani. Bertani shouts an order to his staff. Enter John. The
danger appears to be over. For fun, John lobs a glass to the burly man
and laughs as he does so. Bertani closes the door to the kitchen.
Enter Receptionist. She tells Bertani that Commissioner Lepic is
outside. When John asks if Lepic's alone, she replies, "Non. Deux."
Exit Receptionist.
Bertani opens door to kitchen and calls Foussard over. Enter Foussard.
Bertani gets Foussard to take John out the back way, planning that
Foussard's daughter will bring him to the Beach Club at Cannes. Exit
Foussard and John.
Through the windows, we see Foussard and John leave. Then, we see Lepic
arrive into the kitchens and Bertani go to meet him. CUT TO-
