Ok lets see Serge showed a lost Charley Chase film, A lost Lon Chaney
film in which Chaney played the gayest character I have ever seen on
the screen. He made Franklin Pangborn seem like John Wayne. Also a
lost Melies short, a funky early Beauty and the Beast and the most
painful contortionist I have ever seen on the screen.

Ok for some details. The Chase film had French titles and was called
Charlie the Philanthropist and Serge can't ID but someone here must be
able to. Charley is a newspaper advice columnist who decides to help
someone who has written in asking him to see his elderly mother
because the writer is unable to do so. An enclosed photo shows that
the letter writer could of course pass for Charlie's double.
Charley goes to the town in which is terrified of him believing him to
be the infamous BUD GRANT' who allegedly embezzled money and killed
three people. He falls in love WITH HIS OWN SISTER ( Bud's sister of
course) and eventually the real Bud shows up and all end's happily
So anyone one the title?

The Chaney film is POOR JAKE'S DEMISE from 1913 and well you just have
to see it to believe it but audience was in stitches.

Nights like this are one the reasons I love living in New York

The Chase film is ARE BRUNETTES SAFE? And the Melies film wasn't lost
-- I saw it last year at the Anthology Film archives, albeit not in any
tinted form.

Don't know the title, but it was shot in Norwalk, CA, as evidenced by
the newly built marquee for the Norwalk Theatre in the background of
one of the scenes. Since the Norwalk was built in 1927 (from what I
can figure), it was from '27 or '28.

That is an understatement. As was the REALLY bizarre contortionist
short Serge ran at the end of the show.

I'm sorry I had to miss this show. What, if any, animation was shown?
