Hi,

I need to set the Output to Component in the Toshiba SD43HK Home
Cinema. When I try the "Setup" button on the remote
I'm presented only with the following options:
* General Setup
- TV Display -> Wide, 4:3 LB, 4:3 PS
- OSD Lang -> (list of languages here)
- DRC (Full to Off, set to Off)
* Preferences (locked if the disc is in)
- Audio -> (list of languages)
- Subtitle -> (list of languages)
- Disc menu -> (list of languages)
- Parental -> (PG, PG 13,....set to NO_PARENTAL)
- Password

Nothing concerning the output :(
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Fab

PS: I don't have the manual :'(

Thanks I got it! Does it mean I can't use my component cable with my
TV? Having bought the TV in UK I guess the video formal would PAL...

Thanks for your help mate! I'll try a Region 1. My DVD is multi-region.
Do you think component would give me a visible better quality than
SCART?

I bought it last week. I tried to change the TV setup to NTSC, but I
guess the DVD has to send the same signal? My DVDs are PAL..
The problem I'm experiencing is that my plasma TV supports Component
input. Therefore I bought the cable and connected the component output
from the DVD to the component inputs in the TV. The result is that the
DVD video is out of synch and in magenta tones. The scart works just
fine. Now I found out that my DVD actually can use component output
only with NTSC TV. Therefore I changed the settings in the tele (AV4 ->
NTSC) but still had the same problem. I'm trying to buy a Region 1 DVD
and see whether it works. Could there be any other cause?

Thanks
Fabrizio

If you bought the TV in the last five years it will almost certainly
play both PAL and NTSC.

Clearly, as the other poster suggests, your problem is that you need a
region 1 DVD to output an NTSC signal that will go to the TV via
component.

However bear in mind that RGB via scart gives an excellent picture in
most cases. Component may have a slight edge, but it is possible that
you are going to a great deal of trouble to obtain a picture that will
not be noticeably better to the untrained eye.

If all your DVDs are region 2, perhaps you should just sit back and
enjoy them on RGB via Scart.

Talking of your set up, do you use any sort of switching box between all
your devices and the projector? I ask as I've got quite a few things to
connect - Sky+, Freeview box, Pioneer DVD recorder, two VCRs, Gamecube,
PS2, Echostar sat receiver, etc etc. On top of that I want to get
something like the Samy for its HDMI out facility. The last thing I want
is dozens of fifteen metre cables snaking around the walls, so it seems
a switch box for both scart, HDMI and component are the best bet. And
yes I know a VCR blown up to 120" would look horrible.

Regards

Mark

I haven't got a solution for it as yet as my home cinema room isn't quite
finished. HDMI switch boxes look pretty expensive for just two inputs so I think
I would prefer to just manually swap the lead from DVD & HTPC. A SCART switcher
is the only other thing that I will need to switch between Sky digibox, Xbox. No
need for component switching as I will not be using it as the DVD player is
HDMI, the PC id DVI & everything else is RGB.

nope, it means it'll use component on NTSC discs only.

i had a DVD player which was similar (progressive scan for NTSC, but not
PAL)

try a Region 1 NTSC dvd, and it'll work.

you can, but the world's a bit bigger than just the UK ;-)

try www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk to find much cheaper alternatives overseas.

just be aware of the £18 customs limit.

also, you'd need to ensure that your player was multi-region capable.

Yeah, it's a tedious problem. It would be much better if the projector
manufacturers had a remote connection box linked with a skinny fibre
optic, or something. Save a lot of bother.
