This film will be shown again on Tuesday (May 25th) at 8 am (EST).
In the introduction for the film, Robert Osborn states that this was
Hitchcock's favorite film. I saw it just a few weeks ago and thought
that it was very good, although what I would call slightly dated.

back in the late 80's I met Hitchcocks personal assistant who told me
that yes, Shadow was Hitch's personal favorite and I dont remember why.
In Los Angeles Hitch's personal files are available to see and read and
in the 80's sat and read the original typed short story called Uncle
Charlie with Hitch's personal handwritten notes in the margins about the
story and what direction it show go. The story still set in the 40's
had an older brother who should have been in the war, but Hitch didnt
want to 'date' the film with setting it during WWII. I can see it over
and over again. If you get the chance, take a trip to Santa Rosa, visit
the Train Station and travel the streets to McDonald Ave, where time has
stood still and the house is almost totally unchanged except for a
little landscaping. And just two blocks away is the Pollyanna House and
across the street is the All My Son's house, from the Edward G. Robinson
film, and also, the house from Happy Land.

Doesn't Hitchcock state that in the Truffaut interviews? I think either it,
or Notorious are his best films from the 40's.
