I watched the Quadrilogy DVD of Alien with the commentary, and at the end
Sigourney Weaver (who sat with Ridley Scott) almost seemed to "purr" Ridley
into doing a fifth Alien movie ("Oh, how good it would be to return in
space, wouldn't it Ridley? To explore the origin of the aliens..." , with
the director in the "well, maybe, we will see" mode - almost a sexual
metaphor :o)
Of course I really hope they will do a fifth Alien movie with Ridley Scott
and/or James Cameron at the helm, ONLY if they have a good idea. Scott
talked many times (and even on the DVD) about the idea of discovering what
the derelict actually was and everything, but I do not know if they actually
discussed about it while making Alien or afterward. Only time will tell, I
think.
BTW, I do not know if this had already been discussed, but I have good vibes
about Alien vs. Predator: the director is relatively unknown (and I really
liked Resident Evil and the *direction* of Event Horizon, sue me), the
budget is not too high, and the featurette showed some good ideas (like
staying faithful to the original ideas instead of being "creative" and do
something understandably never done before). It looks like a B movie, done
out of the limelight, and based on some interesting concepts - which is all
Alien and Aliens were about. We will see.
>> Stay informed about: Sigourney really wants the Alien badly
