OK, a while back I got involved in an argument here over what is being
sung in the 1925 PHANTOM when the chandelier falls. I said the Jewel
Song, Jon Mirsallis said the Spinning Song. We're both wrong, but it's
understandable. In the 1925 version (disc 2 of the new set) shortly
before the fall we see Carlotta singing the jewel song- the box of
jewels is definitely there & she's playing with a pearl necklace. The
score Jon is playing does NOT use the jewel song but I guess the
Spinning Song (which I'm not familiar with). In any respect this is NOT
what is going on when the chandelier falls. There's an elapse of time
and when we cut back to the stage there's a duet going on and THEN the
chandelier falls. So we weren't quite right, but not quite wrong. I got
the visual, Jon got the music.
BTW- great as the set is, what is going on with the Faust exerpt from
Midstream? Aside from the subject matter I can't see why it's included.
Still, it's an extra so I'm not complaining very much. I was surprised
at how incredibly boring it is. If the rest of the film is that bad I
can see why Tiffany failed to compete with the major studios.
