Hey,

I haven't found this at all on the SD website under the "Known Issues"
sections of the software updates. I was wondering if anyone else has
encountered it. I am using a 702T with latest firmware v2.34.

When you stop recording, then start recording quickly, the 7 series
recorder plays the confirmation "rolling" beep into the headphones,
but doesn't actually go into record mode.

This happened twice to me yesterday. Luckily I spotted it one of the
times, but I lost a take as a result of it.

Anyone else ever have this happen to them?

Joe

How quick is quickly? Less than 5 seconds? I would think the pre-
record buffer would cover that.

I'm not sure if it's a "known issue" or even anything new.
Sort of a "best practices" issue perhaps.
If I do STOP and the camera didn't cut, I always wait a few seconds
before I hit REC again, trusting the buffer and believing I am
less likely to hang up the processor as it finishes writing the last
file.
I keep the buffer set at 6 seconds which can feel like an eternity
when
you know you should be rolling.

It's similar to working around the glitch when you delete a false
take:
If you hit REC again immediately, the false take will not have been
deleted and you will have SCENE_1 and SCENE_1A

Joe,
How Quickly did you go from stop to record again? 1 second? less than a
second? Do you have pre-Roll enabled? What file format were you recording?
Most digital recorders have to flush the buffers and update file headers
when you hit stop and this takes a few seconds. It should either lock out
record until it is ready to record again (like the fostex) or store the
keypress and execute it when it is able to start a new file. Meanwhile it
should be continuing to store sound data in the internal RAM buffer so you
don't loose any sound during the disk write time. What media were you
recording to? DVD and CF can take longer to update at the end of a file.
However you should not have heard the confirmation beep if the machine was
not capable of going into record so that could be a bug. Are you sure you
didn't just hear the 2 beeps at the end of the previous take and then
perhaps did not hit the record button hard enough? I have not seen this bug
and I have been testing 2.34 for some time. I just tried and was unable to
re-create the problem even hitting the stop then Record within a few hundred
milliseconds. Have you been able to repeat the operation to confirm it is
indeed a bug? Did the record indicator come on and display show that it was
recording but there was no new file? Or did you just notice that the machine
was not in record after you had hit the button.
Also, are you using the front panel controls or some type of external remote
roll like the CL1 or Roll Logic box?

I think he said the recorder wouldn't go into record, buffer and all.

Hey hey,

Recording to compact flash. SD DVD-RAM drive attached, but only
dumping to it throughout the day. Recording 2 track WAV files, track
assigns A1 B2. I also was not able to recreate the problem when I was
trying to, but it definitely happened twice yesterday. Not sure
what's causing it. But the beep was definitely there. I heard the
"boop boop" stop recording sound, then the "beep" for recording, but
no record light or file name increment. I will surely keep an eye out
for it in the future.

Thanks,

Joe
