eric,
i'm sure there have been costs for all manufacturers to pass onto
customers due to retooling etc for non-lead based solder production. i
have not seen any major changes in the price diffences from before to
after but i guess there are some vendors who would site that as another
reason for the massive price differences (that have been around long
before the no lead thing).
what you are saying implies that manufacturers, american, european and
worldwide are now producing different circuit boards etc for the
different markets and their rules. i'm hoping someone will put us both
straight on this 1 but i imagine that manufacturers in our (relatively
narrow) field might be loosing some of the economies of scale if that
is what they are doing.
more likely, in breaking new markets, agreements with uk vendors have
included certain 'guarantees' about the availability of the products.
dan.
