FW: With you as Director?
RS: I don't think I'll be directing, but I will have some involvement. It'll
probably be based on an idea I have, so I hope I'm asked to be involved.
FW: Does that take her to the home planet of the Aliens?
RS: She won't necessarily see the home planet, but you might...
New to the group. The above are the key parts of the interview. Anyways,
here's hoping Ridley at least writes the script! Maybe we'll get lucky and
the one good thing Weaver will demand will be "Either Ridley directs or I
aint in it." :) I'm hoping it also involves the Spacejockey race somehow,
assuming of course he can come up with an idea for that since in past
interviews he was still trying to figure out if that was workable for Alien
5 but kinda acted like it was one element he *might* want to revisit.
Perhaps this is why he seems to indicate the homeworld may not be the focus
(assuming Ripley doesn't die near the beginning).
I would personally love it if half of the focus is somehow on the
spacejockeys and maybe even show how their culture is uneasily tied to the
culture of the xenomorph? Also, if the movie were to focus a lot on the
giants and their living biomechanical nature, then even more so do I hope
Ridley directs, because he is the only person IMHO who can get these nuances
right which will be so hard to execute (considering as much as we wanna see
'em, the jockey at this point still works best by itself in Alien). So, in
case you haven't noticed I'd love it if Ridley focused equally on our seat
bound friends and the bugs. Somehow tie them together into one rich thread.
Assuming of course Alien 5 is even made.
