Archived from groups: rec>arts>movies>production>sound (more info?)

I'm recording sound for a 6 camera reality shoot in about three weeks. It
will require 6 to 8 wirless systems going to iso tracks. I don't want to
send audio straight to camera since I have no control and can't monitor.
Yesterday I was pretty sure that the Metacorder/Onyx combo would probably be
our best bet on a tight budget and I talked it up pretty good to the prod
company. So last night I read everything I could find on-line about the
metacorder. Here's the rub.

How does one sync TC between multiple Canon XL2s and the metacorder. I can
probably use my PD4 as TC generator for the recorder but I don't think the
XL2s can receive TC. Using a common slate is almost impossible.

The answer to this question will apply to another reality show I'll be
working on in the spring using DVX100As.

You will need Lockit clocks on every camera that record LTC on an audio
track. And also one master clock that feeds metacorder.

Assuming that you edit on AVID you will be able to read the audio tc as
TC once digitized and auto-sync your BWF files to that aux tc-track.

When you are on FCP it will be very complicated since you are using
cameras that do not support a professional TC in.

frank.

Start all the camera and PD-4 TC generators (in free run) as close as you
can together. Have all the cameras shoot a slate with clapper to determine
the offset for each camera. Or get 6 TC sates and jam them to your source.

Mark,

Thanks for the detailed off-line post. I'll take it to the editor (FCPHD)
and see if he's up for it.
He may decide to shoot it on film.

It looks like were going to use a common slate and pray the camera ops don't
stop and start until they hear cut.

run free run tc ( time of a day)and you will never have to pray , slate
every 2-3 hours or after battery/cassette change
the offset between the cameras and your main audio recorder has to stay the
same during the shooting
keep the camera mikes open for guide track
additional , you can leave open sticks with running tc from your
recorder(better to do it with wire / or wireless so you will not have to
regem it at all ) to eliminate stopping takes , put the slate in some
place on the set so the operators can shoot it after they change cassette or
battery
