TC reader plug in/app that coverts audio tc to numbers?

If one records TC to an audio track on a camera and then transfers the audio
and video to an NLE...are there any NLE's or software plug ins that will
convert the "audio track" TC to numeric TC? Is this possible or does one
always have to route the audio to an external reader?

Don't know what version this began with, but Avid has a command to
interpret an audio track as LTC.
