Well, actually the Warners folks are doing much better with the WB,
MGM (pre-70's) and RKO libraries. TOYLAND is put out by MGM - which
is the MGM/UA (aka James Bond) company. Different outfit entirely.
For the most part, they don't handle vintage material (primarily the
Samuel Goldwyn library). So I guess film noise is a pretty foreign
artifact to those guys. Still, if you take a listen to the Mark 56
soundtrack LP of TOYLAND, made from a 35mm nitrate print, you'll hear
presence and dynamics that are nowhere to be found on the new DVD.
