This is DAT recorder, therefore not non-linear. However, it's advantageous
to either (1) provide DAT when the production company requests it, or (2)
provide backup to Deva / PD-6 / PD-4 /20.0 Cantar / SD 7-series, etc, or (3)
use it as a very cost-effective machine for pro recording.
It will not generate timecode internally, but TC can be externally
generated. Internally generated TC is going to cost you thousands of
dollars more. We have used timecode slates for many years with non-timecode
recorders and cameras, and all post-houses can deal with DAT. Many
post-houses cannot deal with non-linear formats, in whatever format it is
delivered.
